The University of Žilina cooperates with the Latvian company SIA Mikrotīkls (also known as MikroTik) on the specialized training of experts in the field of computer networks. As part of our mutual cooperation, the MikroTik Academy was established in 2014 at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies – the first university academy of this type in Slovakia.

Thanks to this cooperation, a specialized computer network laboratory was created, which provides our full-time and part-time students with the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills needed in the design and management of computer networks with an emphasis on MikroTik specific technologies.

In the process of theoretical and practical teaching, a wide range of metallic, optical and especially wireless network technologies based on IEEE 802.11 (also known as WiFi) are presented, in which MikroTik has technologically dominated since its foundation.

Topics in the field of computer networks are taught by our colleagues, network engineers from individual faculties of the university, who have previously completed professional training provided directly by MikroTik. Thanks to this, we have certified experts – MikroTik Academy trainers. These are network engineers who have completed MTCNA (MikroTik Certified Network Associate) training and certification, as well as another engineering course and certification from the MikroTik portfolio of courses. Years ago, we opened a collaboration with the company MikroTik, thanks to which we are able to provide a wider portfolio of not only theoretical, but also practical skills to our students. We believe that in the future this cooperation will continue to develop and we will be ready professionally and especially practically to prepare network and security engineers, creators and guardians of the Internet of the future.
